Gold Standard

Gold Standard is a powerful real-time simulation exercise that will ensure you and your team:

  • Have robust and watertight emergency and recovery plans in place.
  • Can deal confidently and efficiently with any major emergency, from natural disaster to terrorist attack.
  • Know how to work as a team, both within your organisation and with other key agencies.

Cabinet Office-approved and aimed at both public and private sectors, Gold Standard exercises are normally delivered at the control centre that you would use in the event of an emergency but can also be delivered at any suitable venue both in the UK and overseas.

The emphasis is on multi-agency team working, and delegates gain maximum benefit by taking part in a Gold Standard exercise with senior representatives from a number of different organisations. However, Gold Standard is also highly effective when run for a team of delegates from a single organisation.

What does the Gold Standard service include?

Our leading industry experts will create a bespoke simulation for your team to work through in real time. The simulation usually unfolds over a single day, lasting between eight and 12 hours. The benefits of this are two-fold:
  • Your existing emergency plan and recovery procedures will be thoroughly tested and can be revised if necessary using our detailed feedback and analysis.
  • You gain invaluable ‘real-life’ experience of dealing with an emergency or major incident.

Simulation scenarios can be created to cover any potential situation, including:

  • Fire and explosion
  • Toxic, radioactive or chemical release
  • Incidents relating to ships, ferries, passenger liners, trains, aircraft, and road vehicles
  • Storms, winds, rain, flooding, snow, cold and heat-wave.
  • Human Disease such as pandemic flu, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), food contamination, and novo virus
  • Animal disease such as epidemic foot-and-mouth Disease (FMD), and avian flu
  • Disruption of essential supplies and services such as oil, gas, electricity, water, food, and telecommunications including data transmission, transfer and payment.
  • Environmental damage and recovery

National Resilience Extranet

Delegates who take part in Gold Standard will have the chance to use and familiarise themselves with the Cabinet Office’s National Resilience Extranet. (www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/content/national-resilience-extranet) This secure, web-based tool provides access to key information including restricted level content to ensure relevant government departments and organisations can share and exchange key information as an emergency occurs.
