Brazil 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Organisers Visit EPC
We recently hosted a senior delegation from Brazil who were in the UK on a fact finding visit as their country prepares to host the 2014 Football World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.
Their visit was arranged in conjunction with the Department of UK Trade & Industry (UKTI) and the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) and began with a tour of Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium in London. The delegation was able to witness crowd safety management first hand as they watched Arsenal v Aston Villa in the 4
th round game of the FA Cup.
Beginning to acclimatise to the cold british weather, we accompanied them north and welcomed them to the Emergency Planning College (EPC) where they spent time with our Associate Lecturers as they delivered crowd management and public safety training. Following a tour of the College site, our Brazilian visitors spent time with EPC staff and delegates, and took the opportunity of discussing their requirements with our management team and course directors. Whilst at the College they were able to find out about the services and solutions both EPC and the International Fire Training Centre (IFTC) can offer.
We made sure they sampled the very best of Yorkshire hospitality at the EPC before taking them on a tourist trip around the historic City of York on the final day of their visit. They then left us to meet with other organisations in Leeds and yet another football match – this time at Elland Road.
Before they left for home, they spend time with the SGSA in London and met with Fan Clubs and the Football Policing Unit.
We received excellent feedback – they thoroughly enjoyed their time with us and went away with more question than with which they came. We have been invited to submit a proposal to support them with their requirements and we are looking forward to a return visit to Brazil!
